Holy shit, I totally didn't expect that ending. Honestly I was so sucked in with the atmosphere you presented and the stillness of the entire game, I was so focused on being prepared for a jumpscare that I was blindsided at the ending. You really played well with our assumptions and understanding of the yandere trope, and you made the characters really well as in they acted the "role" we automatically assign them with. Which made the ending so much more impactful. SPOILERS BELOW!
When Siren was introduced, I genuinely thought he was the yandere, but it stopped as we kept progressing through the game and as we learned more about Siren, he felt so much normal and kind. I adored chatting with him and how it feels like he's like a spark of sunshine in this gloomy world (I love how the bus represents what I think Nao sees the world) and not only that, but the way Siren consistently gives effort to be with Nao even as a friend really touched me and makes me, in some ways, understand why Nao had to leave or else he would commit something far worse. Maybe even dull down Siren before he began to fully bloom into himself. Now, I'm going to go with a theory about Nao because good lord, that ending and the 180 of his personality hit me hard!
I'm not even sure if Nao is human or if he is a human host for a much darker entity. It seems as though he was human first before something attached to him and he just had to accept it as part of him. The entity itself seems to be some sort of dream like demon (I'm using this term very loosely) or that it can manipulate its prey's sense of reality and warp it (given the state of the bus). The both of them may have found a home in the forest (as evident in the greenery in the bus and the tree branches that flash through the screen) and could explain why Nao himself doesn't own a computer and a rather old phone. The reason why he could even be in net security is either he lied since Siren mentioned he was smart or that he uses his job as a means to spread the entity throughout the population as a sort of evil chain mail thing. At least, that's what I think it is.
What intrigues me is how Nao was able to play as this skittish person, but maybe he wasn't "acting". Maybe that's genuinely how he acts in front of other people, especially to those he cares about (Siren), but towards the entity he's more bold and authoritative, as if he knows he is the gateway the entity needs to cross between its reality and this reality which is why Nao is able to boss the entity than possible.
I just really loved how I was so blindsided towards Nao's true nature, he played it really well, able to earn sympathy from not only me but to Siren who, while sadly he said the "right" words as a friend, effectively doomed him and Sheila due to Nao's jealous/envious rage.
The atmosphere was so well done, I really love it! I'm just glad I was able to play one of your scary games without being a wuss because having to move around absolutely terrifies me ahahahah!
I adored the art in this game, and the story took me by surprise. Although it wasn't a long visual novel, it does such a good job of establishing the characters and intrigue. Thank you so much for sharing!
I played this for my YouTube channel, so if anyone's interested in checking out the video in another tab, then follow this link!
Anyway, I just wanted to say how much I love the characters. I love how you think Siren is the yandere at the beginning, but towards the end, you realize he's just trying to resolve an unanswered problem (why Nao left). I also love how Nao isn't a traditional yandere if that makes any sense? The one that goes crazy immediately when they are left alone with the one they love. I know that was create a bigger twist and add suspense, but I really enjoyed that new type of yandere. And yeah, like most people I didn't see the ending coming :0 Towards the end I knew something was up, but a part of me still sort of thought it was Siren.
i looked at like 2 comments before playing this and saw there was a twist, then i saw the yandere game jam and was so confused,, so imagine my shock when i saw the ending. i cant believe i still got caught off guard even though i knew there was gonna be a twist
Awesome game! I'm super amazed that you were able to do this in RPG Maker!
[MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW]
Funnily enough by the time I got to playing, I forgot it was part of a Yandere Game Jam and was totally shocked by the twist! I had my theories that either Siren was evil or the dark stuff was accidentally made by Nao somehow, but I wasn't prepared for the actual ending! It was amazing! I really hope for a sequel where Siren is able to escape, maybe.
Unfortunately, this game has some performance issue with older/weaker computers due to a plugin that I cannot disable. For some people it runs smoother on the browser version, but that's sadly all the advice I can give :')
I was 5 min into the game when I noticed that the game was submitted for 'yandere' game jam and thought Siren was sus as hell. And then when Siren brought up someone specific my opinion did a 180. nice twist
(very much spoiler-ish, beware!) : So I've finally had time to play this (had to play the web version bc it kept glitching on my pc for no apparent reason- well, I actually think I need to update my drivers so there's that-), and oh lord I loved so much the perspective thing on the bus. It wasn't really spooky but mysterious and I was on the edge of my seat waiting for a jumpscare, lol. I loved these characters, hope we can see a continuation/lore to understand more about Nao! (and his powers? what about the eating buildings thingy? and the white blob? Whatever happened to Siren? So many questions!).
Edit: I could do the Spanish translation if you'd like, I don't know if anyone's offered already but anyways I would love to help <3
The twist crossed my mind for a split second a "Wouldn't it be funny if...?" Geez, never got proven so right. Also, it's good to see the other side of the coin for a change.
Love the atmosphere, the pencil style makes the visual more dark and ghostly while the characters still look charming. Personally, I don't find the game to be that scary. On the other hand, when Nao talked about his struggle to connect with other people, it really hit home to me. Good game!
Side note: Even though I said the game is not that scary, it bares an uncanny resemblance to that one dream I had after watching the first few minutes of gameplay of Subway Midnight so it kinda adds to the experience.
The bus' atmosphere is so cool and your characters are as charming as always! I was impressed by the texture and was even more impressed to read it was done traditionally, I keep pausing to look at the bgs haha
Also played the game in browser and luckily, it works smoothly for me!
I can't fix the glitches unfortunately, so I hope they're not too distracting u-u I think the game is best played downloaded, but alas I lose too many players if I don't offer a web version :') Glad you're enjoying the game!

Why the hell this game is so slow, in the technical sense
It could be that your device it's old
You are right! My pc was a shitty one but now I replaced it with a newer and boom...the game works just fine
im sure its an amazing game just like the rest of yours but my laptop was not having it with this one for some reason :'(
Cool shit, dude. Question though, what kind of plug-ins did you use to get that 3D effect?
Thanks! The plugin I used for the 3D effect is MV3D
